We're so glad I'm as far along as I am. It's strange to think like that, but we're thankful that they are the size they are.
Had my biophysical u/s this morning. Both were 8/8 (see previous post if you have no idea what I'm talking about) so that's always excellent news! It was a quickie u/s so they must have done everything they needed to. The girls have switched positions. Yesterday, and every day up until then, Baby A has always been head down and B was laying beside her. Today they have done a switcheroo and are laying more on their side. You can really see a difference in my belly that they have changed positions.
I was having a pain in my left leg this morning and told the resident about it. She ordered a doppler to check the blood flow. I just got back from that and am waiting to hear the results. I don't think it's a clot since I have no pain in my calf. Blood clots are a concern with pregnant women, especially women who are on bed rest.
Tomorrow we are going to Sick Kids and Mount Sinai to meet with some doctors up there. Appointments start at 8am so it will be an early morning. We thought about getting a hotel room, but we have the dogs to worry about and I would really love to sleep at home in my own bed! It will be a nice night away! Mom is coming with us for an extra set of ears since it's information overload!
Will let you know when I find out about my leg,
God bless,
Linds

Hi there. My name is Liz...I'm a friend of Leah Hunt's. She just recently emailed me to let me know of the challenges you are having with your pregnancy. I stayed at Hotel St. Joe's in August/September of 2008 year with mono/di twins (monochorionic/ diamnionic meaning that they shared a placenta, had separate amnions and a thin membrane between them) . One of our twins suffered from IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction)with suspected TTTS (Twin to Twin Transference Syndrome) and I was admitted into Antenatal at 26 weeks. I heard that the only more complicated twin pregnancy is where the twins share the placenta AND an amnion which is what your two seem to have.
ReplyDeleteOur Ashley (twin B) had moderate ventricular megaly which is a dilation of the ventricles to the brain, her growth was severely restricted and she eventually stopped growing and once she was born it was identified that she also had coarctation of the aorta and heart surgery was required. While in utero Ashley had absent of end diastolic flow in the umbilical artery and intermittent reversal meaning that she was just not getting enough nutrients to grow.
We were lucky enough to make it to 30 weeks 4 days. And to most that seems scary, but if you are anything like me, you are hoping upon hope that you will reach at least that far. We had a scare at 25 weeks but miraculously after being admitted into hospital with daily ultrasounds and close monitoring we made it to a safer 30 weeks 4 days. On September 25th our miracles arrived - Ashley weighing 2lbs 4oz and Sadie weighing 3lbs 7oz.
Ashley had heart surgery on November 4th when she was 1500g at SickKids hospital in Toronto. She recovered very well and today she weighs 11lbs. Sadie is doing extremely well also and is a massive 13lbs :)
A few more things I thought I would share....
St. Joe's is amazing. Antenatal as well as the NICU are world class. Our Dr. was Dr. Robert Gratton but each of the residents and Dr.'s that saw us were fantastic.
Mount Sinai and SickKids hospital, specifically Dr. Ryan and the surgeons that performed Ashley's surgery deserve more praise and credit than mere words can express.
Our girls survived against all odds and there is always hope.
Please, feel free to email me if you have any questions. You do not need to reply but I thought I would offer just in case there is anything I can do to make this journey easier for you.
All our best to you,
Liz, Josh, Ashley & Sadie Dowswell
