Glucose Test

So I asked the nurse what my glucose test result was, and she said that I got an 8.3. The limit after one hour of drinking is 7.8. So I just barely failed. I spoke with Dr. deVrijer about it today and she said that she herself got a 9.6 and a 9.3 with two of her children after the one hour test. Then she did the two hour test and they came back well below where they needed to be. Basically, I drank this orange pop stuff that was full of sugar I'm sure. The nurse took my blood exactly one hour after drinking and sent the blood away. For the two hour test, they give me a 3 day high carb diet before the glucose test day. At 6:30am they'll take my blood. I'll drink the drink and they'll take my blood at 7:30 and again at 8:30. If I fail that, then I will have to see how my sugars do with diet and if I can't keep them down with diet, then they provide insulin for me.

People ask me why? There is NO rhyme or reason! I can happen with one pregnancy and not the other. It is something that pregnancy brings about and happens in about 3-10% of pregnancies. It goes away right away when you deliver. The only thing is that it can create large babies, which in my case I wouldn't complain. I will see where I'm at and then speak with the doctors to rationalize what we're dealing with!

Not worried about it right now!

  2. actually sugar problems in pregnancy dont always go away after you deliver. Some women are faced with it the rest of their lives.
Some women also never knew that they had dibetis before or even hypoglycemia undetected in pregnancy can cause a high risk.
high sugar levels endanger the babies devolpment as well as high sugar can promote a larger baby making deliver not only harder but more dangerouse and increase the chances of have an emergency c-section.
i too failed my one hour. and had to take a three hour. most is due to family factors of when they test you i have both dibetis and hypoglycemia on both sides of my own family as well as the fathers. increasing risks for the baby. its also possible the baby has problems digesting the sugars.
on my 3 hour test i passed even though i was border line hypo before i got pregnant. and more women have gustational dibetis than you think. i dont believe that 3% figure is at all acurate. especially with peoples health in this day and age
