Monday's Ultrasound

Hi all,

I've just received word from the wife that she has had a successful ultrasound this morning! Everything is good. Twin A is estimated at 2lbs, 14oz, and Twin B is estimated at 3lbs! We figure Twin B needs to be at 3lbs, 5oz in order to be in the best possible position for the surgery, so she is almost there!

Lindsay and I went on a tour of the NICU yesterday. It was truly amazing to see how tiny some of the babies were there! We're glad we had the opportunity to see how things work, and we have a much better idea of what to expect. As every NICU is different (St. Joe's in London has completely different rules than Mt. Sinai), here at Mt. Sinai, Lindsay and I will have 24 hour access to the twins, and are able to touch and hold them as often as we like. Visitors are welcome to come into the NICU to see the twins, but only if accompanied by either Lindsay or myself. One thing that was surprising (but makes perfect sense), is that no one, outside of Lindsay, myself, the nurses, and doctors are allowed to touch the twins at all during their stay in the NICU. This is simply a preventative measure for germs & infections, especially during this time of year (Dad - If you put a lab coat on and drape a stethoscope around your neck, you should be able to fool them.)

A side note: I made it to Markham this morning in about an hour. I might try working 7-3 instead of 8-4 in order to beat traffic (and of course, to give me more time to spend with my darling wife after work.)

Another side note: I survived my Thai adventure last night, although Dustin refused to let me eat with a fork. For the first time ever, he was finished his meal well ahead of me. Chopsticks are tricky little bastards, let me tell you. But the Pad Thai was absolutely amazing. I've found a new dish to cook.

28 weeks 3 days

I've officially made and surpassed the 28 week mark! As Craig says, 28 is the new 24! What a good weekend I had. Craig spent all Saturday with me, we played cribbage and he went out and bought an outfit for the girls. On Sunday, Doug and Rose stopped by as they left Florida a few weeks early to be closer to home. It was greatly appreciated. About an hour after they left, Mom and Dad stopped by on their way home from Cozumel. Ticked at mom because she has a beautiful tan (no sock lines). I'm so glad they stopped by! Craig left about 20 minutes ago to go have Thai food with Dust and Christy, it should be interesting! Can't wait to hear how it turns out. Tomorrow Craig is in Markham working, doing everything he was doing in London, just in a different office.

Here is a picture of me taken today at 28w3d. It's hard to believe how much I'm growing. I definitely went through a growth spurt again yesterday, I could really feel it!

A Huge Thank You

It was brought to my attention by a certain "lawyer" that I did not properly acknowledge the care that our dogs received while I lived in London. As teacher, you see some good kids and some not so good kids, and our saviour to allowing Craig to come visit me in the hospital after work was Alanna! She is definitely one of the good kids and she should know that doing something like this will put her forever in our debt. She single-handedly walked both dogs at the same time, fed them, entertained them and gave them some lovin' while we were dealing with bigger issues at hand. As I sit here all welled up with the sincere gratitude we have for the Hayter family (because Mel and Tim did walk them and play with them too), I just hope that as my girls become teenagers they will be like Al, someone who is very strong willed and willing to do anything for a friend in need.

Alanna you did a great job, and all I lost in the process was a shoe (which Craig will say was my fault for leaving out...it was Riley's way of showing me he was unhappy!). I know the dogs love you for it and they will know who you are whenever they see you. That's a sign that you have made an impact on their lives! And ours!

Thanks again,
Lindsay and Craig

Update

Things are progressing along well in Toronto. The floor is much busier than I had expected...doesn't help that I'm right across from the nurses station and it's quite busy, especially at shift change.I passed my glucose test, so that's a huge relief that I don't have to have my diet restricted in any way!

Craig is having a good time staying with our dear friends Dustin and Christy. What a blessing they have been taking in my wonderful husband into their home. Craig and Dustin went to a Raptors game last night. I was really jealous and really wanted to go, but I'm glad Craig had the opportunity to get out and have a good time for the night. It seems to be different when he's here because he doesn't have to worry about getting home to the dogs because we know they're in good hands. They're keeping Grandma McGregor entertained for sure! I really do miss them!

I am receiving more testing here than I had in London. Other than daily ultrasounds, which I need to speak to the doctors about, they're doing two 1hr NST (non-stress tests) a day and popping in to hear the heartbeats every couple of hours. The NST look to see how the babies heartbeats react to movement. You want to see spikes in the heart rates and not decels which would mean that they were in distress. It is often very difficult for them to get a good strip because the girls are so active but they have been able to get them pretty good around 10am. They must be resting then. (note to self: 10am is naptime!) However, after a certain point they have had enough and just start having a party in there!

Mom and Dad are stopping by tomorrow after their flight lands in from Cozumel. I'm so excited to see them and talk to them, it's been a long week not being able to talk to mom every day.

Arrival in Toronto

Well I have officially arrived and I have all the paperwork completed. I'm here for the long haul, or for at least as long as I was in St. Joe's which was 25 days.

How was my ride here? Well, I'll put it lightly, I was convinced that the ride itself would break my water. Being strapped, yes, strapped, to a bed no wider than my hips (while they are wide, the bed was not near wide enough) on a mattress as comfortable as plywood! The driver drove fast, in fact we made it here in 1hr 45 mins and then the paramedics did not know where to take me so I was stuck in the hall for a good 20 minutes while they figured out what to do with me (still strapped at this point in a 5 point harness!). I don't think ambulances were built with shocks! I felt every bump and got to the point where I had to hang onto my belly because they were moving around so much.

I finally got to my room at about 12:30 (after missing lunch and nearly starving to death). Waited around for a while before anyone saw me and then went through the whole history thing again. I knew I was in for some pain for the ride, I told Craig it would happen. Sure enough it did and I've been fighting cramping all night. I know they're just braxon hicks because lots of girls on the floor said they had when they were transferred, but it's still scary. I'll be sure to get lots of rest tonight.

We hooked my phone up for real this time. I cannot call long distance and can only call local. But anyone can call me. Please don't be afraid to wake me...who knows if I'll sleep up here since I didn't sleep in London.

I am in room 718 A of Mount Sinai Hospital and my phone number is (416) 586-5900 ext 7179

Thanks for all your support,
Lindsay

Just got word that I'm being transferred to Toronto on Thursday. I have no idea what time I'm going since I have to do my glucose test and all that jazz.
